Before I joined GISFW (Get In Shape For Women), I had quite an impressive resume of memberships at “big name” gyms. I had joined each gym with a new set of high expectations. When I joined Get In Shape For Women my main goal was to feel better and to be able to keep up with my seven grandchildren. To do that I knew I needed to lose weight - not an easy thing to do! For two years Get In Shape For Women has been an essential part of my life. I have changed outwardly in that I have lost 25 pounds and gone from a size 12 to a size 6. I have also lost body fat and increased muscle tone greatly. I have much more energy than I did before.
This program has been for me a permanent and major life style change in terms of nutrition and exercise. I look forward to evry workout and always leave feeling happier than when I walked in. Being a 40 year old mother of two young children, a full-time employee (with a full-time working spouse), and a full-time student are among the many blessings in my life! And like most blessings, all of these things continually require a lot of time, energy and attention that I realized in September of 2011 that I was not managing well. I felt tired and stressed most of the time, taking work home, and grabbing family meals in drive-thrus in an attempt to make things easier. In fact, as the burden of my schedule became heavier, so did I! I was making poor choices that were negatively affecting my health and overall well-being, in turn directly impacting my family. When my sister-in-law invited me to try a trial workout at Get In Shape For Women, where she is a member, I was very skeptical. I have tried different gyms a million times and always ended up dropping it because I was never motivated enough. I was convinced that gyms were not for me. I have tried EVERY diet in the book, you name it, and I’ve tried it, even more than once! And with each attempt, the weight always crept back up. And with the dieting I always gained even more weight back than I lost.
I was overweight, tired, depressed and I decided to give yet another system a try. I was pleasantly surprised at not only how committed I became to the program, but that I really enjoyed it. I have a great support system and guidance from the staff. They are knowledgeable, patient and always encouraging. I have gone from size 16 to 8 in a matter of 4 months, and I am still working on shredding off more pounds.

I lost 25 pounds and 5% body fat in 6 months! I was horrified when I saw myself in the pictures from our family trip to the Grand Canyon last April. Surely, it must be the camera – there was no way that I was that big! My clothes didn’t fit anymore either but I told myself that they must have been shrunk the last time I washed them. I couldn’t be gaining weight right? WRONG!!
I saw an ad for Get In Shape For Women and decided to give them a call. We set up an appointment for a free trial the next day. When I went into the studio, I was given a tour and then we quickly got down to business. I could barely lift a 10 pound weight and I thought I was going to die on the treadmill. The worst part, though was when I saw the number on the scale during the initial weigh-in. Surely that number was wrong!! Knowing deep down that scales don’t lie, I decided right then and there that I was going to join Get In Shape For Women. That was, by far the best decision I have ever made. I have met my goals by losing 13 pounds.

For two months I had gotten the invitation to try out Get in Shape for Women. The second time I decided to do something for myself and made an appointment. I was going through a difficult time in my life and along with seeing how it was affecting me physically, I decided to try it out. Knowing I wasn’t greatly overweight to begin with and that weight loss would happen, I had the goal of obtaining a fitness level that I have had for a long time, along with obtaining the knowledge of what to eat and developing that lifelong habit. The workouts were intense and felt very rewarding each time. Being on a schedule of coming in three times a week made it even better to achieve my goal. As everyone knows, you can always find things to do at home rather than workout. With being on a schedule and sticking to it for three months, your body craves having those workouts. Over the years I have joined many different gyms and tried different diets. Get In Shape For Women is the first exercise and nutrition program that has actually worked (and continues to work) for me. When I went to other gyms I would skip the weights and head straight for a cardio machine because that is where I was most comfortable. Turning 60, a milestone, does it really mean extra pounds and slowing down? Today, I can enthusiastically say, no.

“Life is a participatory sport” – problem was… mine wasn’t. kids growing up – moving out – wanting to do more with Mom and Dad then just be driven to games and hang out on the couch. Oh boy – plans being made – “hike the Grand Canyon?” “Come see me while I’m over in France mom?” “Come visit me in Utah and we’ll hike some of the National Parks?” “Can’t wait to snowshoe this winter” “hey wannna sign up for a 5K this thanksgiving morning?” my first thought – no way I could be part of any of that. Too heavy – get tired easily – just plain uncomfortable in my own skin.
Just by chance saw a friend one day that I hadn’t seen in about a year and she has lost 90 lbs – wow how’d you do that? Get In Shape For Women – it’s great – meal plan to follow – ½ hour of personal training and ½ hour of interval training. – You have a set time to go = you don’t show up – they go on without you. Really motivates you to make those assignment slots – OK – let’s see – I’ve literally tried every program known to man or woman at least once – I’ve joined Weight Watchers so many times I theoretically should own part of the company – did Curves for a while a few years ago – not a gym fan – don’t like the classes – always seem to be going the opposite way of everyone else and has a little problem when my Pilates ring popped out from between my things all the while watching it roll up to the front of the class – ummmm how do I retrieve that? Ok – I’ll give this a try – what first jumped out at me was the great support and guidance from the staff – how they put up with all of these women our excuses in is amazing to me. The Get in Shape for Women program gave me the tools to put action into my goals of losing weight and becoming a healthier and more active me. So my motivation was quite high to begin with and then I saw the 12 week challenge – wow I thought - $5000 shopping spree?? That was nice but oh boy – a free year at Get in Shape for Women? That was my spark – now I just had to with that challenge!
I still have quite a bit left to accomplish but feel well supported and always encouraged by the trainers and all my new workout buddies at Get In Shape For Women (and there isn’t even one Pilates ring to have to chase). I am forever grateful and a little tearful at times for this journey to a healthier me – yoga has taught me that just being me is enough. So I‘ve done the hiking in the national Parks, going to run the 5K on Thanksgiving and feel like I now can participate in my life after all its now where you start – its where you finish.

I dropped about 12 lbs in 3 months!

I joined GISFW 6 months ago. When I signed up I was ready to lose weight and get healthier. At that time I wasn’t feeling good, I was tired all the time, and weighed more than I should. I knew I had to make a commitment to myself to make healthier food choices and work hard to get myself back in shape. I liked what GISFW had to offer, small group sessions with 4-1 trainer ratio, and nutritional advice. That’s what I needed.

As a working professional, I dreaded the question that every woman asks themselves each morning, “What am I going to wear to work today?” in my case, I knew that my options were quite limited and ugly. The size 12’s, from the pre-kids era, were in the far back of the closet collecting dust and waiting for that “if I ever lose weight moment.” The size 14’s were in the middle of the closet, since there were still wearable, as long as I didn’t button the button or I didn’t zip up the zipper all of the way. Know what I mean?
The size 16’s were now the “new” clothes that I had no choice other than to choose from, since these were the ones that were currently fitting, yet u felt disgusting in them knowing that the next size up would be an 18!

My name is Bev Whitehouse, and I’m 58 years old mom of 2, and have 4 adorable grandbabies. I began my journey at Get In Shape For Women in mid-May, at the recommendation of one of my co-workers, u had recently signed up for a bucket list event, to complete the New York City Marathon in November for a charity called Team for Kids, I wanted to take my running to the next level – to improve my running time, shed belly fat and a pesky 10 pounds.
I have to say, I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, not sure I would like being inside during the summer, be able to keep my appointments, really take the fat off, or improve my times. Well, I could not have been more wrong, and as the days/weeks went by, I started to lose the fat, gained speed, and most importantly, the confidence that I could really do this. I talked to the manager about nutrition and started to choose every carb I put in my mouth, as well as increased my protein intake. I really looked forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays, both to see other women that I worked out with, but also to benefit from the skill and encouragement of the manager and her staff, make us all work hard, and together have built an atmosphere of achieving positive results for their clients – which to me is the most important element to all of our success.
I know Get In Shape has made a HUGE difference in my confidence on, and off the race course. I have achieved 3 personal bests since joining – the MOCA 5K in September at 30:54; the Twin Cities 10 Miler in October at 1:43 flat, and last Sunday I completed the NYC Marathon in 5:04 (20+ minutes faster than my time at the Twin Cities Marathon in 2010). As you can see I am not the fastest on the planet, but by focusing on improving my strength and speed, for the first time, I actually felt, and started to look, like a real runner.. that us something I never thought I could or would achieve. I lost 10 pounds, and 7% body fat. I really do feel like I have a new body and that I can really do anything I put my mind to.

I lost 18 pounds in 5 months

I joined GISFW at the end of April and I lost 18 pounds in 5 months. For the last two years I kept gaining weight and at this point I was the heaviest that I have ever been. We had planned a summer vacation on the beach with friends and I knew I had to lose the weight in order to enjoy my vacation. I wanted to be able to have fun with my kids and friends and not have to hide behind a beach towel and feel uncomfortable the whole time.
I hadn’t exercised for a long time and when I first started I couldn’t run more than 3 minutes without being out of breath, now I run 2 miles 3-4 times a week. Early in March I lost my first and only true love. It was sudden; we were laughing and talking one minute then the ambulance, the hospital and death in 25 hours. Shattered and heartsick, I was moving in a fog. My sons and my brother were there to take care of me, but they had to get back to their lives. I had to take care of myself.

I’m sure my story isn’t much different than anyone else’s trying to lose weight. I went to the doctor and he said I was grossly overweight for my height. I was depressed because of it, but was still not motivated to do anything about it.
Then I got a postcard in the mail advertising an open house for a new gym, just for women only. Not only that, there was a diet that I could follow and the workouts were 4 to 1. I figured THAT was a program I could follow. I finally found my motivation.
That was about 4 months ago. Since then, I have lost 20 lbs., about 10% body fat, and gained a pound of muscle. I feel terrific, have more energy, and have finally gotten back to the size 6 I aspired to wear.
I feel the reason the program has worked for me is accountability. If I don’t show up to exercise, they’ll know, after all there are only 4 of us at a time. I love the camaraderie of everyone there. The trainers and the ladies urge and support each other. Everyone has been super.

After knee surgery for a torn meniscus last year I was in physical therapy for about 2 months when I saw the article in the town paper about GISFW. I was intrigued by the business model and the fact that you were essentially getting a personal trainer. Since I was already in physical therapy mode going twice a week I decided to keep the ball rolling and added GISFW three days a week and thus began my road to overall better health both physically and mentally. The manager and trainers at GISFW are all wonderful as are all the women I have encountered in my group. We tailored my exercise in the beginning to fit with what I had been doing in physical therapy and have now been working further strengthening and transforming all those muscles that were being neglected. I’ve gone from crying through each workout to a motivated exercise machine. My weight loss has been steady but more importantly I have changed my whole outlook. On July 28, 2010 I was window shopping and I had just gone through a very stressful 6 months and made several major changes in my life. As I passed Get In Shape For Women, I made an instant decision to stop in.

If you dedicate yourself to eating/drinking right, exercise 3 to 4 times a week…. You will lose the weight in a safe, long terms manner. Easier said than done right? Joining Get In Shape For Women is the best gift I have ever given myself! At 57, despite loving sports and being very active, my weight had gradually increased as my energy level steadily decreased. For over eight years I only talked about cutting back in my dietary habits and working out. I have always struggled with having self-discipline to go to the gym. After one last failed and frustrating shopping experience, I was now motivated; not to mention I was approaching fifty years old.
I walked into Get In-Shape for Women and quickly realized this is exactly what I needed. The workouts are scheduled, divided by time with a trainer and time on your own, as well as having bi-weekly weigh-ins and motivational personnel. All of these things fit my need to be held accountable.
I set my goals to lose twenty pounds and to get in shape in six months. I kept this promise to myself by committing to a healthy food plan as well as devoting three hours a week to solid workouts. Due to my varying work schedule, my weekly commitment changed constantly, and my trainers were always accommodating.

Like many others, my time is stretched every day with work and family life. Over the past few years I struggled with thoughts of wanting to improve my health and fitness. I’ve been a member at Get In Shape For Women since February 2009. I initially joined because my friend invited me to a trial workout. I figured it would be a way for me to work out over the winter with a friend and maybe tone up and lose a few pounds. Well since then I have lost over 18 pounds and 8% body fat and I feel great. I’ve also reduced my cholesterol dramatically. As a matter of fact my doctor told me that whatever I’m doing to keep doing it because it’s working!! The owner and the trainers at GISFW are wonderful. This has been a life changing experience for me. I was so afraid to join because I thought I was too old or too out of shape but I got the courage and went for just a “trial” workout to see how I would do. I was so afraid I would embarrass myself. Well, after the first work out I was totally hooked. I was in such poor health when I first joined (high blood pressure and Cholesterol) and after my last physical my doctor told me my cholesterol was back to normal and if I kept losing weight I would be able to come off my blood pressure medication. What I love about Get In Shape is that I show up and they set the machines up, all I have to do it concentrate on my weight training and cardio. Also, having a scheduled time and day to show up is great…….. It is not like joining a regular health club where you just show up when you want to. I have tried that and I never had the motivation to get there on my own, I would always find some sort of excuse not to go. I have followed the nutrition plan, weight training and cardio and I can’t believe the result I have had in five months. I have lost 30lbs and I am down two clothes sizes. I have muscles I have never seen before. The trainers are all so supportive and they know how to motivate me to work my hardest to reach my goal. “Success is possible!” I truly believe that joining Get in Shape for Woman is the single best thing I have done for myself in decades. I haven’t just lost weight but gained more of a sense of ME. Taking time for myself was rarely even in my vocabulary, not to mention in my lifestyle. I thank my trainers for finding just what would fit into my busy schedule and for sticking with me in that second month!

At age 55, I was tired of being overweight and decided I need to do something about it before I began having real physical problems. A “Get in Shape for Women” studio had opened recently in our area, so I decided to check it out. I like the combination of nutrition and strength/conditioning training that was involved. I had lost a lot of weight 10 years earlier using diet and it crept back within a few years. I knew that I had to incorporate more fitness into my life to make the change work long-term. The personal attention from the trainers is fantastic for motivation as well as making certain that I’m doing the exercises correctly. The concept of eating every few hours kept me from ever feeling famished or deprived and the one “free day” week has kept me from feeling guilty about occasional lapses.
In five months, I’ve lost 41 pounds and 12.5 inches and have gone from a size 20/22 to a size 16. I am halfway to my goal and I feel so much stronger and fit that I can’t believe it! Before GISFW, I would tire easily and become out-of-breath, nut no longer. When I first started the treadmill, I told them that I was NOT a runner – but now I am doing it as part of the interval training and it feels great! I know I won’t ever compete in a marathon – running is not that much fun! – But my husband and I signed up for our first “Fun Run” at thanksgiving and now I know I can do it. I am finding old “thin” clothes in my closet that fit me now and I love how I feel! I still have a way to go, but I’m confident that I’ll reach my goal with the tools that GISFW has given me.

The ability to succeed in anything in life is to first start by setting a goal. The way to achieve it is to surround yourself with people who are committed to your success and make you accountable to move forward. GISFW has provided the environment, tools and educated team for me to achieve my goal of comprehensive health and fitness. No one held a gun to my head, put a fork in my hand and my butt in the couch. I have been trying to lose 50lbs for 3 years and I keep losing and gaining the same 15lbs. I am so grateful to Get in Shape’s structured program, and to the great support and encouragement of my trainers. I continue to “stay the course” and if for some reason my weight or body fat doesn’t change or increase, my trainer takes the time to find out why and then adjusts my program to get results. I’m thrilled that I have gone from a size to

I went to check out GISFW 11/24/10 3 days before my 60th birthday. Had no intention on joining till after the holidays in January so I was going to have one last splurge. The energetic manager convinced me to join that day for 6 months. The first two weeks I felt like I was going to die since I had not exercised for 10 years. Instead of gaining weight over the holidays I lost 7lbs much to my amazement. On 12/22/10 I knew that GISFW program would work to change my lifestyle so I upgraded to 1 year. Before GISFW I had never been on an elliptical machine, a treadmill (only once for a stress test) never lifted weights or used ant other machine. I had always done my own exercises at home, skied, water skied, hiked, walk etc. This truly was a new experience in my life and I love it. Absolutely feel great. I’m thrilled that I have gone from a size to 16 to a size 6, 30 lbs lighter and 17 inches thinner. The manager also sends almost daily emails with all sorts of information to motivate you and keep you on track. What gym does that. Would like to thank the manager (one of a kind), the nutritionist for her nutrition expertise and the certified trainers for all their support. Without them (Also, I’d like to mention have not been sick since I joined GISFW 8 months ago) I would not be writing this success story!!

If it wasn’t for the manager and trainers I would never be like this. It’s a great program. Every day you get support. I had never worked out! Now it’s like a great obsession. I would have never gotten up at 4:30 to go exercise,. When you come here it is like a family, all different personalities. We all accept each other’s differences with the roll of an eye. I went to look at Planet Fitness and Tenex…NO WAY!! Here your face is your entrance card. My first day with the training I was thinking that B…..!! I think she pushed me. Even though she was tough on me, but I needed it!! I remember I came with clogs on the first tome through (free session). Some equipment wasn’t even here!!

The trainers constantly add new exercises to challenge you to go to the next level. That’s just what I needed, in addition, the nutrition counseling was also an area I needed help with. The manager is so helpful, motivating me to stay on the right track to meet my nutritional goals.

During my first workout, I remember thinking, " You're doing this for yourself, work as hard as you can - this is your choice to be here". To this day, 47 pounds lighter, I continue to work hard, to work to become fitter, healthier person. Along my journey, the trainers have been very supportive and helpful. Before losing weight I used to dread shopping for clothes. I would buy baggy shirts and clothes that would hide my mid-section. Now I really enjoy shopping! I've worked hard to become fit, so now I buy clothes that accentuate my shape. I love the way I look and feel now and I NEVER want to go back to how I felt before.
As a wonderful unexpected benefit my family is eating better because I am preparing healthier foods. Since I've placed an emphasis on good nutrition, we've tried new recipes and different foods that we never would have tried previously. It is my hope that my children will choosse to make good health a priority throughout their entire lives.
I truly believe that health and fitness has become my new way of life, No more diets, just good choices and now I have the knowledge and the tools to make it happen.
