In June when I joined GISFW I was training for an 18 mile fundraising walk in New York City. I thought I was “training” and doing all the right things, but I was unhappy with my weight and my eating habits were horrible and I felt stuck. I had been diagnosed three years earlier with severe food allergies and I used it as an excuse for my weight. When I met the trainer at GISFW I was concerned the diet would not work for me because of my food limitations. She assured me it was possible if I had the drive and dedication. I started to get into the routine of my work outs and following the GISFW diet. I saw results I never thought I would see. Not only was I able to lose weight and feel better, I started to question my food allergies. With my new found confidence I found a doctor who helped me and I continued on my weight loss journey. If it had not been for the support and confidence of the trainers and other members I would have never tested my limits both physically and emotionally and I would still be stuck. Since joining Get In Shape For Women on December 8th I have lost 17 pounds and numerous inches. Best of all, my blood sugar is in normal range, I have more energy, feel better, and u have renewed interest in exercising and eating right. Also my bowling game has greatly improved because I have so much more strength. The trainers are so helpful, funny, and supportive. The thing I love most about GISFW is that I get to eat food I can buy in a supermarket, my favorite healthy snack is Greek Yogurt with strawberries (yummo), I eat this snack everyday and this is something I can continue to do for the rest of my life.

I’ve always loved to eat and while I never really considered myself thin, I also never felt like I was overweight. My weight went up and down through two pregnancies and often fluctuated through the holiday seasons, but I always considered myself reasonably healthy. I was 15 pounds over my wedding weight from ten years ago, but I had come to accept that this was how my body would be from now on (if I was lucky!). Last year, however, I gained a few extra pounds, and I started to feel uncomfortable in my clothes. Uncomfortable and self-conscious. I found myself throwing on sweats and a loose t-shirt as soon as I came home from work each day. I was spending way too much time and energy worrying about how I looked, and I didn’t like the way I felt either. I came into GISFW in June, curious to see what the program was like, and I was surprised to find out that my fat percentage was only one point away from obesity! I may not have been looking my best, but I certainly didn’t think I was this unhealthy! So I joined.

For the first three months I only lost one pound, maybe two. People in my workout sessions were shedding pounds like nothing, but I wasn’t discouraged because I knew something good was going on with my body. I could feel the difference. I could see myself slimming down and toning up within the first couple of weeks, and my clothes began to fit again. It almost didn’t matter that my weight was not changing as quickly as I had hoped. I felt better— healthier. I knew I had to just keep at it. When I finally got serious about my food intake, the weight really started coming off. That felt great, too.

It’s been almost 10 months since I joined GISFW, and I’ve gone down 8% in body fat and lost a total of 10 pounds — 10 stubborn pounds that I’d been holding on to for a very long time! It doesn’t sound like a big loss, but it has made such a big difference for me. I love the way I look and feel. Life can get hectic, and it’s not always easy to get into the gym, but I really look forward to my workouts and I’m grateful to the GISFW trainers for keeping me motivated and on track.

I’ve struggled with weight as long as I can remember but after having 3 children in 4 years, I decided it was time to do something once and for all so I can be healthier for my girls. It can be hard to find the time to fit in exercise, especially juggling 3 girls and a full time job, but the set workout times made me put something on my calendar. Now exercising and healthy eating have just become part of my routine. Based on experiences with other facilities geared towards women, I had some concerns that the workouts would not challenge me enough or that I would get bored but that fear was quickly laid to rest! Get In Shape for Women has done so much for my life! Most importantly, I am now a healthy role-model for my family. When I started I was an emotional eater and was very overwhelmed at the thought of losing weight. It was as scary to think about all that I had to lose as it was to consider that I wasn’t going to have the foods that I knew I could turn to in the past to comfort me in times of stress, the Get In Shape for Women team coached me to “take things one day at a time,” sometimes even one meal at a time. By focusing on the short-term my goals didn’t seem so impossible. In fact, the trainers made it FUN!

The reason I love Get In Shape for Women is that it isn’t just some circuit training that you might expect to see in a typical gym — it’s a complete program that I have been able to fit into my busy life as a professional, career-oriented, single-mom. The program focuses on all the necessary aspects of what it takes to lose weight and keep it off, which is something that I have been looking for a long time,. Imagine - a program that actually delivers on its promise!

If I could offer one piece of advice to new clients it would be to be patient and work the program, - it didn’t take a short time to put on the weight so we can’t expect for it to come off too fast. I learned to see 1 to 2 pounds of weight loss per week as a wonderful success.

One more thing:

Before I started I knew that what I was doing wasn’t working. Last spring a few of my friends began the program and were getting awesome results. I knew that if I gave the program a chance and followed it that I too would end up a winner — I did and I have!

As a 60 year old woman who was morbidly obese for the last 15 years, I was at my wits end. My family life from the time I was a small child revolved around the dining room table with aunts, uncles, and cousins. And, in addition, I suppose the fact that my family operated a potato chip factory, didn’t help my cause.

I am a retired high school teacher of 35 years. In my last year as a teacher, due to the fact that I was morbidly obese, I started having heart problems, TIA’s, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc. things weren’t getting any better and in the three years after my retirement, I began to investigate surgical procedures, and finally made the decision to have Lap Band surgery. The surgery is not easy as people think because you have to go through months of counseling, classes and dieting. My surgery date was finally set for February of 2010.

From the time of my surgery until May I lost only 10 pounds, the weight was slow coming off and I was devastated. I had always joked that if they opened a gym in Georgetown, I would join. When they opened a “Get In Shape for Women” in Georgetown, my son James called my bluff. I went in on a whim and spoke with the owner. He had to work really hard on the “sell” but I decided I was ready to give it my all and was excited to find that they were willing to take me on.

My experience has been incredible! For anyone even considering weight loss or interested in toning up — JOIN In Shape! The trainers, the counseling, the nutrition, and the equipment are wonderful. BUT, the opportunity to have only four people in a class with a trainer is something no gym offers. The owner, manager, and trainers work with you as an individual. They find the best exercise for your body. You aren’t left alone to just work on a machine, you learn to use the equipment properly. I can’t tell you what it has done for me and for my confidence. At this point, between dieting and pre-surgery weight loss, I am down a total of 120 pounds, but 70 has been since joining “Get In Shape for Women”. I would never have accomplished this without their instruction and unbelievable support! I am proud to say (and almost embarrassed to admit) I have gone from a size 24 to a 6! I can only say thank you to my trainer and thank you In Shape for believing in me!!!

My name is Areti J.Stamatos-Gomez, a Greek-American, married to a Dominican-American, Jose. I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. I work as a manager of my family American restaurant and American & Latin Club, Breezeway Bar & Grill, 153 Blue Hill Avenue, Roxbury, Massachusetts. You may think that losing weight while working in a fast food environment is difficult or impossible, but with the personal training and expert nutritional advice of the GISFW manager and personal trainer, and the personal training it was a piece of cake! I must especially thank my personal trainer and nutritionist who was with me 99% of the time. With his dedication and my determination, I lost 65 pounds in 7 months at Get In Shape For Women. I went from size 16 to a size 6 in 7 months.

The reason I made one of the best decisions of my life to join GISFW was to lose weight for my wedding day 11-11-11, after having gained weight after being rear-ended in a car accident in 2010. I joined GISFW on March 25th, Greek Independence Day, to gain the independence over my battle of gaining weight as I was determined to lose the weight and look great in a Strapless, Corset-back Wedding Dress.

My personal trainer has helped me lost the weight and keep it off. Due to his dedication I looked and felt like a beautiful bride on 11-11-11 as my father, James walked me down the same aisle of the same church The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, he and my mother, Tasia who was admiring from the first row of the church were married 43 years ago on 3-3-68.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in Greece, birthplace of my parents and I am back at the gym I love, GISFW! Thank you GISFW for making me look and feel like the most beautiful bride ever!

I started Get In Shape For Women on March 29, 2011. Since then I’ve lost over 40 pounds, 21.5 inches and 6.8% body fat. I haven’t seen this weight since 1996. WhooYoo!! I am so proud of myself! Going in, I knew what I needed to do. I knew what foods I should be eating. I knew that I should be eating three meals and small snacks in-between. I knew that I needed to exercise. Over the years I’ve been a member of many gyms and I have signed up with different weight loss programs. They all helped a little, but it wasn’t until I walked into GISFW that it all came together. They have a great team of trainers that give you individual attention. They keep you motivated and on task. They know what you’re capable of and will push you when needed, and believe me, sometimes I need it and I welcome it. They weekly weigh-ins and the preset work out appointments keep me accountable. Get In Shape for Women (GISFW) has made such a difference in my life!! I have always battled with weight for as long as I remember. I tried several diets, even had one of the first gastric bypasses, only to put the weight back on.

I had walked past GISFW several times and always wanted to stop and see what it was all about, but I never did. However, I loved the fact that it was just for women and the environment appeared intimate to me. Last August I had a hip replacement. I went to physical therapy and once I started feeling better I thought “I don't want to spend my life in pain and not taking care of myself”. GISW was having an Open House so I asked my daughter if she would go with me to check it out. We did and were pleasantly surprised! I was still under doctor's care and explained my recent surgery to Jayne. She said they could work with me and any restrictions I might have but wanted to make sure I was committed. My daughter and I were so impressed — we didn't get a hard sell and didn’t hurry through — we actually left without me joining. Jayne encouraged me to think about it. I knew this was a program I wanted to be a part of! I called Jayne 2 says later and joined.

I have lost 32 pounds since October 1st and lowered my fat mass to 27%! I have learned the importance of nutrition and how critical it is that you DO eat!!! I also enjoy exercising now, which is something I avoided. It works! The patience and concern of the trainers through my recovery along with their encouragement has made such a difference for me! I have always been someone who is self-satisfied, happy in my own skin and confident in my appearance. From high school to college, and then again from college to graduate school, and then, sadly once again from graduate school to my professional career, I noticed that my weight was slowly creeping up to a level that I could no longer tolerate. I began cringing at photographs of myself, and feeling more self-critical than I had even been before. Taking pictures became a game of avoiding certain angles. Flattering outfits I had once loved now hugged all of the wrong places or didn’t fit at all. Stepping on the scale at the doctor’s office stopped seeming routine and started making me defensive. Despite constant reassurance from my fiancée at the time that I was still beautiful as when he met me, despite weighing almost 30 mounds more, I felt my confidence slipping. With a wedding in early October and a somewhat unstructured summer since I work in a school, I decided at the end of June 2011 that I needed to seriously consider getting “in shape” for the wedding, for my health and for myself, in general. I philosophically refused to go on a crash diet or do anything drastic to lose weight for the wedding. In fact, the number on the scale had little to do with motivating me to make a change. It was the difficulty smiling in the mirror. I wanted to begin a healthy pattern of eating and exercise that fit into my lifestyle and made me feel better, inside and out.

In a regular day, I would hear ridiculous commercials on the radio about taking a certain “supplement” to lose weight and see outlandish advertisements on the TV about risky surgeries to erase fat. I would think to myself how desperate, foolish and dangerous these options would be. Being the wise and frugal consumer I am, while flipping through the local newspaper for coupons, I came across an advertisement for a free week session at GISFW. I thought to myself “What do I have to lose”? Weight, I suppose. During my first session, I felt an instant sense of relaxation and immediate connection to the staff. As silly as it seems, I was really attracted to the soothing colors and décor used in the studio. My wedding colors were purple too! The staff was welcoming and warm, willing to open up about their experiences and genuinely interested in mine. I justified the cost of the membership to myself as just another wedding expense. I hadn’t spent that much money on my dress, an item of clothing I would wear only one. I should invest in my health, something that will be with me every day. Although I was asked to leave my comfort zone I needed a gentle nudge. Previously, I was more of a “foodie” than a runner. I would rather go back for seconds than be on a treadmill for minutes. I went to the gym, but I want really pushing myself. It was difficult to hold myself as accountable without a support system. The friendliness and honesty of the staff and other members encouraged me to work harder, both with fitness and with nutrition. The people at GISFW became like a second family, with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Knowing that others had similar experiences reduced my self-criticism. Sharing common goals with others increased my motivation. It wasn’t long before my stress levels came down and my energy levels went up. At the same time, my weight dropped and my strength improved. Not only was I noticing my accomplishments, but my small successes were celebrated by the community. I was acknowledged by making the “Rising Stars” list in the first three months.

By the time I had put on my wedding gown, I was at a place where I could look in the mirror and beam with excitement. I had accomplished something great and I was about to enter into something even greater! I was honestly shocked by how gorgeous I felt on my wedding day, especially after seeing the expression on my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle towards him. At a recent doctor’s appointment, I didn’t hesitate as I was asked to step on the scale to be weighed. I was proud. I am proud. As I don’t plan on stopping now. I extended my membership from 6 months to a full year, knowing that I can build on the momentum I have to reach my goals. Although it is not part of the four main components of the program, it may be the camaraderie that’s keeping me going the most. You sign up “to get in shape”, but you end up getting so much more!

Get In Shape For Women has taught me how to value what I can do rather than what I can't. Since my first day, my trainers have challenged me to do more and take my body to the next level. Before joining Get In Shape For Women I had not worked out in over 30 years. I've had arthritis since I was 16 and always used this as the excuse for not working out. So when I finally made the decision that I was joining a gym, I knew I would need help and couldn't afford a personal trainer. At Get In Shape For Women I got the help I needed with both weight training and nutrition. I've always prided myself on being a person who ate a rather healthy diet. But over the years I would still gain weight and have to struggle to lose it and this was getting harder and harder to do in the last 10 years. At Get In Shape For Women I learned that it's not only what you eat but when and in what combination. They taught me how to balance the right amount of Carbs and Protein to help lose weight and keep it off. This worked so well that 2 months after joining I went on a Cruise with my husband and was still able to lose 3lbs. that week.

I was uncomfortable, unhappy, and more importantly unhealthy. I had gained 50 lbs between the age of 48 and 51. My eating habits were out of control and I had no form of exercise. I knew it was time to make a lifestyle change. I had tried diet meetings, boxed foods and inexpensive gym memberships. I wanted a program that “held my hand” with both diet and exercise.

I visited Get In Shape for Women to better understand their approach to nutrition and exercise. I met a devoted and caring staff. I took advantage of the week trial period and felt confident the program could get me to my goal. I wanted to lose the 50 lbs that was slowing me down.

I joined in March 2011. The on- line nutrition planner keeps you on track with your calorie count. We weigh in weekly and if you are not happy with the results, you sit down and talk about a new food strategy. What didn’t work? New information is posted weekly to give you nutrition ideas and members gather around the board to share what works for them.

Three days a week for one hour we weight train and do cardio. The trainers take all the guessing out of the workout. Exercising in small groups of four with a trainer is ideal. They give you encouragement, check form and make sure you know what you are doing next. The exercises and cardio programs vary from week to week so it stays interesting. An added bonus, you meet 3 new friends that are also working towards the same goal.

Results? So far I have lost 31 lbs. and a total of 11 inches. I make the right food choices and exercise daily. I have become stronger and my energy level is great.

I will achieve my goal before January 2012 with the support of ny trainers. For once, I will start a New Year feeling great and looking good! I will continue to stay with GISFW after I reach my goal. With this much success, I am not about to let go of their hand—.

The end of May, I saw an ad in the paper for Get In Shape For Women. The following day a post card arrived (is there a message here?)

Becoming a member of Get In Shape was my new commitment to myself. To get healthy, active and be motivated.

For too long I had declared open season on the world of carbohydrates. Being an overeater had plagued me throughout my life.

Now I get weighed ever Friday and my deal with the trainer was not to be told ‘the numbers’. One particular Friday, I mustered up the courage, dropped the denial and said “Give me the news” I was not prepared to hear 196.2, the highest I had ever been! That’s the bad news.

The good news is that since that “May day,” I’ve been seeing steady improvements each time I get on the scale. I look better, I have energy to burn, thanks in part to the quintessential trainer.

In short, I live a better life.

Last week I had an appointment with my cardiologist. He was delighted when he saw the transformation over recent months. The scale in the exam room gave me a wink and a nod: 156 pounds.

I initially joined Get In Shape to do weight training to maintain bone density but I also knew I needed to lose weight. Personal attention makes all the difference. The trainers make sure I’m using the correct weight and form. Not counting reps! Plus they change up the exercises from time to time so it doesn’t get boring.

The last thing I wanted was another diet. The nutrition plan provides lots of options, I learned of healthy foods I could eat for snacks plus was still able to eat many of my favorite foods with only slight modifications.

I was able to lose 25 lbs in about 5 months (between Nov-March) AND I’ve not only kept the weight off over the summer I’ve even lost a few more lbs. I’ve gone from a tight size 16 to a size 12 in my dress pants. I recently went out and bought myself skinny jeans!

Each week in the summer, I would read an advertisement for Get In Shape For Women in our local newspaper but that was far as it went.

I had many health issues with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight, swollen ankles and a bad knee. Yikes! I was a physical wreck. I was curious to see if personal training would help my body image and improve my frame of mind. The summer came and went and I finally joined on August 31. This was the best day I had in a few years and the beginning of a wonderful journey towards a new healthier me. The spring in my step, twinkle in my eye and a positive attitude were back!

I owe my gratitude to the trainers at GISFW for my transformation and making new strides to meet attainable goals each week.

The groups are small 4 to 1 and each exercise program is tailored to meet individual needs. Great concept!

Exercising was not on my priority list but each trainer with their excellent exercise expertise, helpful hands and warm smiles makes me want to do my best.

I've been with GISFW for 4 months. I lost 19 lbs, my BMI is down from an obesity level and I lost major body fat. With a special diet, exercise & cardio workouts, I feel much better with more energy.

The instructors as well as the women I exercise with are like my extended family. We talk, laugh, motivate, encourage self esteem, strengthen muscle, drink protein shakes as we work together to improve our goals.

To be honest, I'm in my 60's and it wasn't easy loosing weight. It came off very slowly and many times I wanted to give up. As you get older your metabolism slows down which adds to frustration but with excellent training, support of my family and the super ladies @ the gym I didn't quit. Loosing weight wasn't a breeze. In my late 40’s, I gave up struggling to keep my weight down—I was tired of losing 10 to 20 lbs. to only gain that weight back plus many extra pounds, so I gave up trying to lose. At age 62, I had become very overweight. With the extra weight, my ability to walk, climb stairs, and carry heavy objects was impaired as I would lose my breath and become tired.

After seeing many, many GISFW ads of before and after pictures of other women who had been successful, I dreamed it would work for me, also. I joined Get In Shape for Women because I knew it was time to get control of my body weight and improve my health and physical mobility. GISFW helped me reach my goals. Making the commitment to diet and exercise on a weekly basis was just what I needed. The support and encouragement of the team at GISFW kept me motivated. I have lost over 50 pounds so far. And my flexibility and body strength have definitely improved.

At the time I joined GISFW, I just learned that I had developed two bone spurs under a knee cap, which might eventually lead to a knee replacement. But the strength training has improved this condition. I have not experienced severe pain in this knee since after the first or second month of training.

But I also needed to improve my physical well being and overall mobility.
